Care & Materials
At Simply Khushi, our pieces are made to be worn, not saved for special occasions. Crafted from 18ct gold-plated stainless steel with sparkling cubic zirconia stones, our jewellery is designed to keep up with your everyday life: the school run, the gym bag, the late nights out, the quiet mornings in.
While our pieces are built to be durable and long-lasting, a little love goes a long way. Following these simple care tips will help your jewellery stay looking as beautiful as the day it arrived — keeping its shine, its shape, and the memories it holds for years to come.
General Care Tips
1. Last on, first off Jewellery should be the last thing you put on when getting ready, and the first thing you take off when you get home. Perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions contain chemicals that can dull plating over time, so try to let these dry fully before putting your pieces on.
2. Keep it dry Our stainless steel base is naturally water-resistant, making our pieces genuinely great for everyday wear. That said, we'd always recommend removing jewellery before swimming, showering, or soaking in the bath. Chlorine, salt water, and hot water can gradually wear down gold plating and affect the setting of your cubic zirconia stones over time.
3. Avoid direct contact with chemicals Cleaning products, chlorine, and harsh chemicals are jewellery's biggest enemy. Where possible, remove your pieces before cleaning the house, doing the washing up, or applying self-tan.
4. Store it separately Store each piece individually in a soft pouch, lined box, or jewellery roll — ideally the one it arrived in. Letting pieces tangle or rub against each other in a drawer is one of the most common causes of scratching and surface wear, especially where cubic zirconia stones are involved.
5. Keep it cool and dry Humidity speeds up tarnishing. Store your jewellery somewhere cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight — a bathroom cabinet is one of the worst places, however convenient it feels.
6. Gentle cleaning only To bring back the shine, gently wipe your piece with a soft, lint-free polishing cloth. If it needs a little more attention, use lukewarm water with a mild, unperfumed soap and a soft cloth, then pat completely dry before storing. Avoid jewellery cleaning dips, ultrasonic cleaners, or anything abrasive — these can strip plating and loosen stones.
7. Mind the knocks Cubic zirconia is a durable stone, but like any gemstone setting, it can loosen with repeated knocks. Try to remove rings and bracelets before workouts, heavy lifting, or manual tasks.
A Few Extra Tips
- Sleep and sweat: try to avoid wearing jewellery in bed or during intense exercise, as friction and sweat can accelerate wear on plated pieces.
- Sunscreen and fake tan: apply these before putting your jewellery on, and let them fully absorb first.
- Travelling: pack pieces individually in a pouch rather than loose in a bag or wash bag to avoid scratching.
- Little and often: giving your pieces a quick wipe after each wear keeps them looking newer for longer, rather than waiting until they've lost their shine.
A Note on Longevity
Gold plating is, by nature, a finish rather than a solid metal all the way through — so like any plated jewellery, some very gradual fading is completely normal with regular wear, no matter the brand or price point. The good news is that with the simple habits above, you can significantly slow this process and keep your Simply Khushi pieces shining for years.
Every piece we create is designed to be lived in and loved — so wear it, enjoy it, and let it become part of your everyday story. A little care just means it gets to stay part of that story for longer.
